Replica Work Resumes
05/24/2010

The National Guard was at the site of the Great Mound replica this morning, and they are scheduled be here for two weeks working on the replica.

Their first work will be shaping up the dirt around the replica and leveling the surrounding area. On Tuesday they will begin moving the original dirt from its storage at the old sawmill site to the replica’s location.

The replica’s base, or first step, is 90’ X 90’ at the base and is currently about six feet tall. The National Guard will add the original dirt to the replica until it reaches a height of 15 feet.

The second step of the Great Mound replica will have a terrace of three feet on all four sides and it will rise an additional seven feet in height.

The third step, which will also have a terrace of three feet on all four sides, will add another seventeen feet to the replica’s height.
