Black River Bridge Explosions

Blast The Past
(3 minutes 32 seconds)
Have you ever seen those controlled explosions on TV? Buildings, bridges and tall smokestacks explode and crumble to the ground. They sure are breathtaking. How would you like to be the person who caused one of those explosions? Well now you can.
The old US Hwy 84 Black River Bridge is coming down with a BIG BANG. And the Catahoula Historical Society and Museum is selling $5 raffle tickets for a chance to “Press The Button” to explode the old Black River Bridge.
Tickets can be purchased at Catahoula Office Products, Edwards Motel, the Catahoula News-Booster or from any member of the Catahoula historical society or call 318-201-4097.
A definite date for the explosion is currently pending because the river level must recede to a certain level prior to the blast. A two-week notice will be given prior to the explosion date, which will give us time to post it online and in the local papers.
We will draw three tickets, the first one drawn is the winner, if for some reason that person cannot be present to push the button (we will be in touch to confirm if they will be there or not), then we will go to the second ticket, and then on to the third ticket. That way, no one has to be present when the tickets are drawn, even though we want the drawing to take place in a public setting, with lots of excitement around.
Be a part of history, get your tickets soon.
Almost 80 years ago the tallest Indian Mound in Louisiana was destroyed so its dirt could be used as road fill for the western approach to the Black River Bridge. Perhaps it’s fitting for that bridge to end its life with a HUGE EXPLOSION. |
