With the 200th anniversary of the formation or "birth" of Catahoula Parish rapidly approaching on March 23, 2008, plans are being made to hold a huge celebration marking the event.
The planning meeting is scheduled for today, Wednesday, November 28, at the Jonesville Town Hall at 10 a.m.
The date of the bicentennial was only recently noticed, about ten days ago, and contact was made with the Louisiana Office of Tourism to find out about grant funding which may be available to help pay for the celebration.
The LOT emailed the grant application with the reminder that the deadline for proposals is this Friday, November 30th.
Mrs. Sondra Redmon, who, at Jonesville Mayor Hiram Evans' request will be writing the proposal, stated, "They will have the proposal in their hands Friday, if it has to be driven to Baton Rouge that morning."
At the Catahoula Parish Police Jury meeting Monday evening, Nov. 26, the police jurors gave their support of the project with Jackie Paulk stating that the Jury members would help in any way they could.
This celebration will be a fine opportunity to put Catahoula Parish in the limelight, bring tourists to the parish, teach our children about our heritage and for the citizens of our parish also to enjoy the events and all that is great about Catahoula Parish.
All public officials and citizens from around the parish who are interested in having input into the upcoming celebration are encouraged to attend today's meeting.
