Ancient Anilco

This marker, established by the State of Louisiana, is located at the Exxon center on Highway 84. The marker states that Hernando de Soto arrived here March 29, 1542, and he later returned to fight his last battle here.

That sounds to me like Hernando de Soto died here. History tells us he was buried and his men ran their horses over his grave because they didn't want the Indians to know de Soto had died. Later they dug him up and put his body in a hollow log, and sunk it in the river.
